What horoscope would this character consult if they wanted to find out what was in store for them? Using star signs to develop characters helps to show their true colours
In the previous article Characterisation and the Zodiac, the four elements of the zodiac were summarised to provide a general overview about characters born under those signs. This first article explores the air sign, Libra in more detail and will help writers to understand their motivations, their aspirations and their good and bad points. Characters born under the Libran sign will have their birthday somewhere between 23rd September and 22nd October. Libra – OverviewLibra is the seventh sign of the zodiac and is represented by a pair of scales. It is not surprising then that characters born under this sign will be concerned with balance, in all aspects of their life. This can mean that their behaviour is inconsistent as they swing one way and then the other. This character, whether male or female, will be a doer rather than a thinker. However, before a Libra starts doing, they may spend some time considering the options before making their decision. Librans generally don’t like to be on their own, but they don’t let others know that. Librans are quite content listening to music or reading a book. They enjoy an argument, particularly with family just for the fun of it, but are also quick to create harmony if things get out of hand. They are extremely good hosts and can make most people feel at home. Libra – Physical and Behavioural AttributesThese attributes can be generally linked to Librans although they are not easy to describe in a physical sense. One common Libran feature is a dimple on the chin, cheeks, or knees but on the whole their features are well balanced. Librans have an easy charming smile. Male characters will have a defined bone structure and like to check out their look in mirrors and windows. This could be viewed as vanity but they are keen to ensure that they visually make an impression They speak clearly and with charm and are quite artful in romantic relationships. Female characters will have a curvy figure but are generally not overweight. They have large eyes, slightly flared nostrils and a generous mouth. She will take good care of her appearance and can use her natural attraction for her own benefits. She loves to wear fine clothes and adores perfumes and scents. The character will generally enjoy good health and can recover from illness quite quickly. They can suffer from back problems but when suffering often put on a brave face and secretly enjoy all the fuss and attention Libra –Likes and DislikesAll the star signs have some lucky elements assigned to their profile. Libran characters will prefer the colours green, purple and pink. Their sign is represented by the Emerald gemstone and copper. Their favourite animal is the elephant and they have a preference for aloe, myrtle and roses. Most Librans dislike loud arguments and sloppiness, especially in public. They don’t like being pushed into making a decision or being told that they must make a change. Characters will not be fond of active exercise as this affects their neat appearance. On the whole Librans prefer being fussed over and admired to the extent that they often have people running around doing errands for them. They have a keen interest in the arts, particularly music. They prefer clothes which are well tailored in muted colours and textures. Using the Zodiac to help develop characters can provide the writer with additional information which shapes their behaviour and actions. The next article will detail the second air sign, Aquarius.
